How to Export a Bank of America Statement to Excel or CSV
Check the account's download options first. When the issued PDF is the available source, convert its transaction rows and compare the result with the statement.
Choose between account activity and a statement PDF
To get a Bank of America statement into Excel or CSV, check whether your account offers a transaction download for the period you need. If it does, use the spreadsheet-compatible option shown there. If you have only an issued PDF, convert its transactions into rows and review them against the statement.
An activity download and a statement serve different purposes. Activity can cover a selected period, while the issued statement preserves its own closing date, summary, and account context. Keep track of which source you used, especially when preparing historical records.
StatementMint is independent of Bank of America and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the bank.
| What you need | First option to check | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Recent transaction rows | Account activity download | Available dates and file format |
| A closed statement period | Issued statement PDF | Account and statement closing date |
| Older records | Statements & Documents or bank support | Actual availability for the account |
| Several months | Non-overlapping source files | No gaps or duplicated coverage |
Check the download options in your account
Sign in through Bank of America's own website and open the intended account. In its activity area, look for a download or export control. If available, choose the period and a spreadsheet-compatible format offered for that account. Open the result and confirm that it contains the transactions you requested.
Do not assume that a file labeled for Excel is already CSV, or that every account offers the same date range. Inspect the actual file type and headers. If you receive a workbook and need CSV, save a separate CSV copy of the reviewed transaction sheet rather than merely renaming the extension.
Bank of America's Merchant Services documentation describes its own transaction export, including CSV. That is a separate product workflow and does not establish the download options for a personal checking or credit-card account. Follow the controls in the account you actually use.
Download an issued PDF when you need the statement
For credit cards, Bank of America's published instructions direct customers to the card Account details page in Online Banking, then Statements & Documents. Select the required statement and save its PDF. The bank also documents statement access through its mobile app, with download options depending on the phone's apps and settings.
For other account types, locate the statement area for that account and choose the required period. If the document is unavailable, use the bank's support channel to ask about obtaining it. Do not infer that a missing activity download means the statement itself is unavailable.
Before conversion, open the saved PDF. Confirm the masked account identifier, period, page count, and presence of every transaction section. Use the issued file rather than a screenshot of only the visible activity rows.
Convert the PDF into a working transaction file
Upload the PDF to StatementMint and process the pages available under your allowance. Download Excel for a formatted working sheet or CSV for a portable transaction file. The standard output contains Date, Description, and signed Amount.
StatementMint does not sign in to Bank of America, retrieve records from the bank, or assign accounting categories. You supply the PDF. Check the resulting rows against that PDF before using the file for bookkeeping or importing it into another application.
A partial preview is useful for inspecting the output, but it is not a complete statement export. Confirm that the processed scope covers the source period you intend to reconcile.
| Date | Description | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| 2026-08-03 | Customer receipt | 1250.00 |
| 2026-08-05 | Harbor Office Supply | -86.40 |
| 2026-08-07 | Harbor Office Supply refund | 16.40 |
| 2026-08-31 | Monthly account fee | -10.00 |
Check the exported rows before sorting or importing
In the synthetic example, the four signed amounts total $1,170.00. That check confirms only the arithmetic of those rows. It does not prove that a real statement contains no additional transactions. Compare row counts and source sections as well as totals.
Inspect a purchase, a credit, the first row, and the last row on each transaction page. Check wrapped descriptions, separate fees, and repeated amounts. Summary totals and year-to-date figures are not additional transaction rows.
For CSV, use Excel's controlled text import when dates or number formats are ambiguous. Microsoft documents selecting the source date order in its Text Import Wizard. A displayed date format alone cannot repair a date already interpreted as the wrong month and day.
| Check | Record in your working notes | Common problem |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Masked identifier and account type | Rows assigned to a different account |
| Period | Start and end of source coverage | Activity range differs from statement period |
| Scope | Pages processed and sections reviewed | Partial file mistaken for complete export |
| Signs | One debit and one credit checked | Amounts reversed during mapping |
| Dates | Source date order and year | Month/day swap or wrong year |
| Overlap | Previously imported date ranges | Same rows imported twice |
Combine historical files with a source record
Before appending several exports, add account and source-file columns in a working copy. Record the period covered by each file. Compare adjoining dates and investigate overlaps between an activity download and a converted statement.
Do not delete repeated transactions solely because the date, description, and amount match. Two real purchases can share those fields. Use the source records to determine whether the repetition came from overlapping files or separate activity.
The related Excel conversion guide covers the full PDF workflow, the date-import guide covers spreadsheet date repairs, and the combination guide covers merging periods. Start with the direct bank download when it meets your needs; convert the issued PDF when that is the source you have.

Frequently asked questions
Can I download Bank of America transactions directly into Excel?+
Check the download options available in your account activity view. Use a spreadsheet-compatible option when offered for the required period; formats and coverage should be confirmed in your account.
Where can I find my Bank of America credit-card statement PDF?+
The bank's published Online Banking instructions point to the credit-card Account details page, then Statements & Documents. Select the required statement and save the PDF.
What if I only have an older PDF statement?+
Convert the issued PDF into transaction rows, then compare the dates, descriptions, amounts, and processed scope with the source before relying on the export.
Does changing a PDF file extension to CSV convert it?+
No. The PDF must be parsed into transaction rows and exported as CSV or XLSX. Renaming the file does not change its contents.
Is StatementMint connected to Bank of America?+
No. StatementMint is an independent PDF converter. You supply the statement, and it produces Date, Description, and signed Amount exports for your review.
